Reports to: Location Manager
Type: Full-time, Contract
Target Start Date: January 2026 Salary: $ 48-56,000 (Salary commensurate with experience)

Position Summary

The Assistant Manager works on-site at The Book Bank, supporting leadership and day-to-day operations while strengthening relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders. This role contributes to the development and delivery of outreach initiatives, builds meaningful partnerships, and helps ensure programs and services are visible, accessible, and responsive to community needs. The Assistant Manager collaborates closely with internal teams to coordinate events, support programming, and enhance the organization’s presence within the community.

Key Responsibilities

Site Responsibility

· Welcome and engage visitors, fostering a positive experience and inspiring a love of books and reading.

· Sort, categorize, and organize donated books to ensure accessibility for visitors and partners.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting space for children, families, and community members. · Delivery of literacy programming, ensuring programs are well-organized, aligned with CBB’s mission, and consistently meet quality standards; provide guidance to staff and volunteers to support effective implementation

· Provide general administrative support, including answering phones, responding to emails, and maintaining documents.

· Support additional organizational tasks and cross-team needs as required.


Community Outreach & Engagement

· Support the Manager in implementing outreach strategies that build awareness of the organization across local communities.

· Represent the organization at community events, school visits, presentations, and partnership meetings.

· Build and maintain positive relationships with schools, local agencies, community groups, and other partners.

· Identify opportunities to strengthen community presence and expand outreach connections.

· Assist with creating outreach materials and providing community-facing communications support.

· Engage families, educators, and community members by sharing information about the organization’s mission and services.

· Maintain ongoing communication with partners to support collaborative initiatives, referrals, and community needs.


Event & Volunteer Support

· Assist with the coordination and on-site support of community events, pop-ups, book giveaways, and outreach activities.

· Support the coordination of volunteers, ensuring smooth operations and providing guidance as needed.

· Help ensure materials, supplies, and logistics for community engagements are well-organized and ready.

Qualifications

· Post-secondary diploma or degree.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain relationships.

· Experience working with diverse communities and an understanding of equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness.

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

· Comfort with public speaking and representing the organization in community settings.

· Ability to work weekends and occasional evenings for events or outreach activities.
