Children’s Book Bank Receives Toronto Community Award
We are thrilled to share that The Children’s Book Bank is a recipient of the 2024 Toronto Community Champion Award! This award, granted by the City of Toronto in collaboration with United Way Greater Toronto, recognizes and acknowledges the extraordinary contributions that community organizations make to support the health and solidarity of the residents of Toronto.
We are honoured by this recognition and filled with gratitude for the hard work and dedication of all our staff and volunteers, as well as the support of our donors and community.
We were nominated for this award by a teacher in our community who wrote:
“I teach at a school 15 minutes walk away and have taken many students to the Book Bank to expose them and their parents to getting FREE books and listening to stories read by passionate volunteers. As a mom, I’ve benefited so much from bringing my two kids since they were born and they’re now 10 and 12. We still go in when we walk by or drive by as my kids love browsing through the different sections and then choosing one book to bring home! Half of our collections are from the Book Bank! Moreover, I’ve bumped into the parents of my students on Saturdays and PA days, which is heartwarming to see families hanging out there to read when school is closed. People have heard of ‘food’ banks but not book banks. Not many believe that there’s such a thing! I can’t think of another organization that is so kid-focused and promotes literacy at the same time.”
