July’s Book of the Month is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.
Willy Wonka’s famous chocolate factory is opening at last! But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, a boy who’s hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled child whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster in training; and Charlie Bucket, Our Hero, who is good and ready for the wildest time of his life!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is perhaps Roald Dahl’s best-known story. The story of Charlie Bucket, the five Golden Tickets, the Oompa-Loompas and the amazing Mr Willy Wonka has become firmly fixed in our culture since it was first published in 1964. The original book has sold well over 20 million copies worldwide and is available in 55 languages.
